Susie knew that she needed the sandbags right now. From the upstairs window Susie could see the burst banks of the river and the water cascading down the lane towards her house. The boys were running around downstairs saying that water was coming under the porch door. The porch was filling up and now the water had almost reached the top step and would soon be creeping into the downstairs hall! She returned downstairs. “Look!” shouted Daniel, “the water’s coming in the hall now!” 16
