The Flood

Last summer, because of the wet weather, Susie dug up her concrete patio and planted grass and shrubs in its place. This was to help the rain water drain away, but with so much rain the garden had become waterlogged. All of the children were upset. The pet show on the village green had to be cancelled. The green was waterlogged too. Mrs Bone, who lived at the farm, had told Susie that the ground was saturated. “Any more rain and poor Mr Bone will need to move the sheep onto even higher, drier land.” “Gosh! That sounds serious,” said Susie in a concerned voice. “Oh it is, the farm is almost underwater, and the potato crops are learning to swim!” chuckled Mrs Bone. 8
