Susie followed the boys to the waters edge and looked out to sea. She
couldn’t see a dog anywhere.
“Oh no it’s drowned!” cried Nathan.
“It must have got swept out to sea with the tide!”
“There it is!” shouted Daniel pointing further down the beach.
Susie looked, and then stared in disbelief.
She looked again to make sure.
“That’s not a dog boys… It’s a seal!”
“A seal?” chorused the boys.
“Fancy that – a seal on our beach!”
“You are right though Daniel, it does look very much like a black
labrador” agreed Susie.
They stood watching it for a few minutes. They hoped it would swim
nearer to shore, but just as suddenly as it had popped up, it dived
back under the water and disappeared under the waves.
