Snowflakes and Icicles

Snow and Adverse Weather Safety and Community Resilience information for parents, carers and teachers 1. Stay informed by listening to weather forecasts and watching for MET office warnings. Prepare for school closures and disruption to normal routine and public transport. 2. Don’t travel if bad weather is predicted, only make essential journeys and consider working from home. If you have to travel ensure you and your vehicle are prepared (warm clothes, food, drinks, torch, blanket, shovel etc). 3. Have a household emergency plan and prepare an emergency kit. Try and have supplies in for 3 days, non perishable foods and bottled water, in case you can’t get out of your house. 4. Work with members of your community to distribute and spread salt/grit from local grit bins and think of and check on family and neighbours that may struggle to collect their own food and supplies. 5. If you need to walk in the snow wear appropriate footwear to keep you warm and safe. 6. Don’t walk or allow pets to go onto frozen lakes and ponds. Never attempt to rescue pets etc. 7. Have ways of staying warm if your utilities are affected by the bad weather. Have extra warm clothing available and think about heating just one room instead of the whole house.
