Susie phoned Mark, who came over straight away.
“I have to walk the dogs anyway, so we’ll see what we can do,” he said.
Mark let the dogs sniff the brooch, to pick up a scent.
The dogs sped across the snow, sniffing and almost sneezing, as the
cold snow tickled their noses. Amber and Ash were good at playing
‘search and find’ so Mark was hopeful that if they retraced Nanny
Dot’s steps they may find the missing stone. He wasn’t sure if they
were chasing a scent or just chasing each other.
Despite finding a bunch of keys and a deflated football, they had no
luck finding the shiny black, precious gem stone.
They finally reached the frozen village pond, next to the Post Office.
Mark knew how dangerous frozen lakes and ponds could be, so he put
both dogs back on their leads. He couldn’t risk either dog running onto
the ice in case they fell through into the freezing water. Disappointed
they headed back.
