The village school was closed because of the bad weather. It had been
snowing all night, the local radio station warned of roads being blocked
and unsafe to drive on because of the ice. Susie, the childminder,
wondered how many children would need looking after.
Sanjay’s mum and dad worked at the hospital, so they would probably
try to get to work, and would therefore need Susie to look after him.
She wasn’t sure about Daniel and Nathan. They lived on the other side
of the village. The twins, Kit and Lydia, only lived down the road so they
could walk to Susie’s house.
The twins were indeed on their way but they weren’t walking.
“On occasions like this, there is only one possible mode of transport
worth considering” announced Kit.
“The sledge?” asked Lydia.
“Absolutely!” agreed Mum.
